Things to See and Do in a Nami Island Tour

A couple of weeks ago, I was exhilarated to cross another destination off my ever increasing Korea Bucket List: Nami Island. This beautiful, half-moon shaped islet has always looked charming with its popular tree-lined tracks & photogenic surroundings.  Part of a renowned TV drama “Winter Sonata” was shot on this islet in a man-made lake southwest of Chuncheon. It is home to rows of majestic redwoods, pines and ginkos, making it perfect for strolling. The islet is also home to roaming deer, ostriches and diverse waterfowl, and hosts revolving art & photography exhibits.

There is a lot to see and do during a Nami Island tour – certainly enough to keep visitors busy for a whole day or more. To assist you plan your Nami Island trip, I have highlighted some points in terms of what to see & do in Nami Island.

Explore the Song Museum & Magic Hall:

Though Nami Island’s natural splendor is its main attraction, there’re also a great many number of other facilities to be relished. And the Song Museum & Magic Hall is one of them. Placed on the Island’s north end close to the wharf, it is Korea’s 1st national pop-music museums. Inside this museum you can find adequate exhibition space, a music stage, a recording studio, and a riverside cafĂ©.

Nami Island on Wheels:

No doubt, Nami Island is an excellent place to walk, but if you would rather explore it on wheels, there’re many options to pick from. For instance, you can hire a family bicycle or a mountain bike. There is also what is known as an “Electric Tri-way,” where you just need to stand straight as it moves forward. Tourists can also hire a 4-person electric car, ride along on an escorted tour cart or consider the Nami Island “Charity Train,” which benefits UNICEF.

Metasequoia Road:

Undeniably the most-photographed place in Nami Island is the Metasequoia Road. When the Island’s originator planted plenty of trees to embellish Namiseom, he search for special varieties, like silver birch, Korean pine and zelkova trees. Amongst them, the most popular are the sleek, 40 meters tall metasequoias. Renowned for their foliage and texture, they change their colors with the change of seasons.

Enjoy the night:

If you have truly relished your day on Nami Island, why not enjoy the night? From the strict campers to the first-class tourist, you have got many choices. The 1st is to reserve a room at the island’s own Hotel Jeonggwanru. The 2nd is to lease a riverside cottage that lines the tracks. From small cottages to min condominiums, there’re so many options to pick from to prolong your island escape.

This village is one of the most preferred photo spots in Seoul. Travelling around the streets and viewing the traditional Korean homes can be a lot of fun. There are also a few guest houses in the village that will certainly give tourists a great travel experience. If you love Korean street food, then this is a must-visit place.

Shop some cosmetics at Myeongdong:

A cosmetic lover’s paradise, at Myeongdong you can avail all the admired Korean cosmetic brands – from Etude House to MISSHA and Tony Moly. Check out the “buy 1 get 1 free” option. Also, don’t feel shy to bargain with the vendor.

As a region that swells to thousands of shoppers daily, you will have a great time here, even if you just wish to watch people.
